RMIT at a Glance
Our teaching, learning and research programs are continually updated so that students, staff and graduates are equipped to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

At the same time, we have not forgotten our past as one of Australia’s original educational institutions, and we have remained true to our original philosophy.

Since 1887, our inner-city campus has been a vital part of the City of Melbourne, from the 1880s boom through world wars, the Great Depression and renewed prosperity during the second half of the 20th century.

RMIT was awarded royal patronage by Queen Elizabeth II for its educational service to the Commonwealth and contribution to the war effort, and RMIT remains the only higher education institution in Australia with the right to use the prefix “Royal” and the Monarchy's coat of arms.

During the 1990s, the institution gained university status and developed campuses in Bundoora and Brunswick in the city's northern suburbs, and later in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi in Vietnam.

In 2013, RMIT opened a research and industry collaboration centre in Barcelona, Spain.

With significant teaching partnerships in Asia and Europe, as well as research and industry partnerships on every continent, RMIT has a strong global presence.

RMIT has a global reputation for excellence in professional and vocational education, applied research, and engagement with the needs of industry and communities world-wide. There are at least 15 global ranking schemas, of which (QS, ARWU and THE) are considered the most influential.

University Ranking

When we talk about Northumbria University ranking. The university has been ranked between 901 and 1000 for two years in a row, 2019 and 2020 by ARWU Shanghai Ranking. The Shanghai ranking doesn’t consider an institution’s reputation among academics or employers, preferring instead to rank universities by considering the level of academic research they produce and the number of Nobel Prizes won by their staff.

The QS World University Ranking has ranked the university in-between 651 and 700 for 2021, which is an improvement from its earlier years. Times Higher Education has ranked the university in-between 351 and 400 for two years in a row, which is also an improvement from its earlier positions. While QS puts a maximum focus on Academic Reputation (40%) followed by Faculty/Student Ratio and Citations per Faculty at 20% each,

Times Higher Education (THE) devotes equal importance to Teaching, Research, and Citations at 30% each.  The Complete University Guide has ranked the university at number 52 for 2021. The Guardian has ranked the university at 27 which is many points up from its earlier ranking of 50 for 2017.

When we talk about US News and World Report, the university has been ranked 660 for 2021. The US News & World Report takes into account Global Research Reputation, Regional Research Reputation, and Number of Publications cited (12.5% each) among other ranking parameters, as part of their ranking methodology.

While looking at the Birmingham City University's ranking within the UK, we can see that it is quite popular in the UK. It signifies that the university has improved its performance in entry standards, student-staff ratio, career prospects, and value-added services, which are the major parameters for The Guardian's university ranking.

Monash courses explained

In our experience, different students want – and need – different things from a university. You may want to undertake a broad education before choosing a specific career; you may have difficulty deciding between two strong areas of interest (or want to keep both alive); or you may know exactly what you want to do career-wise and want to focus on that goal from day one.

Whichever category you fall into, Monash can help. We provide a variety of courses that lead to different professional outcomes and, in some cases, offer different courses that lead to the same career. Whatever route you take, you will graduate with an internationally recognised qualification and well prepared for your chosen career.

Monash University organises its undergraduate courses into two types: comprehensive and specialist.

These courses allow you to select from a wide range of subjects within a broad field of study.

You can choose a Monash Comprehensive course in five broad fields: arts, business, commerce, information technology or science, and then customise your course to make it uniquely yours.  You study a range of subjects from across the field broadening your knowledge to suit your personal needs while also deepening your knowledge of at least one subject that will become your major.

You have the option to choose your major immediately or later. You try a range of subjects in your first year at university, then narrow your focus in year two – while still having the opportunity to try new things – before finally committing to your major area of study. In some comprehensive courses, you will be required to complete a minor in a second subject.
